Humourviolence

I really appreciate comedy and humour in this sick, miserable world, whether that be in media or just joking around with those you love, blah, blah, blah. Even some of the most serious of bands have a "fun" song, or some type of comic relief. Black Flag, taking a stab at original vocalist Keith Morris, released "You Bet We've Got Something Personal Against You" on their Jealous Again EP after Morris used the song "I Don't Care" (which the previous track is based on) with his band Circle Jerks. Black Flag even got MTV airplay with their song "TV Party", a satire of television addicts. There are many straight up satirical, comedic punk acts (Dead Milkmen, Meatmen) and bands that utilize samples for both humor and a type of social commentary (Charles Bronson). Others oft have humourous or ironic song titles (Das Oath) or a name totally unfitting to the band's stance and viewpoints (Weekend Nachos). However, and I'll try my best to not attack any individual artist, there seems to be a surplus of "joke" "powerviolence" bands. Now to them, it may be their baby, or their crowning achievement in life, but I seriously don't see why half of these bands get the time of day, albeit most of the time it's just on the proverbial "asshole's blog".

The bands I speak of usually follow this type of formula:
-irrelevant samples that take up more length than the song itself
- song/artwork/lyrical parodies of prominent figures in the current scene, or scenes of past
- no work put into song-or-lyric-wrting
- release a discography release after every 3-4 releases (which I personally see as cashing in)

THE SHORT VERSION: There are a shiton of bands who rip-off Spazz and do nothing new musically or lyrically, and get way more recognition than they deserve.

Yet again, I could be in the total wrong, and who am I to judge another's artistic integrity. People want to have a good, fun time, and there's nothing wrong with that. Maybe I'm just an asshole... with a blog and an opinion.

End of my beginning

I mostly just run this to communicate with bands. I might post interesting media occasionally.
